Seems like I have done some serious bead shopping lately... ,-) From the top down:

• two strands of amethyst quartz plus some VERY big beads of the same
• bright yellow crackled glass

All these from Luxonia, naturally!
Below the yellow strand there is smaller and bigger hematite rice beads and blue gold stone nuggets. Those from VitaBeads.
Yummy... let's start making some more jewellery! It surely will take some time before all these have been used. ,-)

She

Helmetin tammikuun teemana on musiikki. Sattumoisin tulin ostaneeksi Inkulta prehniittinugetteja, joista syntyi vaijeriin tämä koru. Sopivaa kaveria ei sitten tahtonutkaan löytyä, kokeilin vaaleaa ja tummaa, kiiltävää ja mattaa. Lopulta tuli oikea kappale mieleeni ja valinta oli selvä: syvänsinisiä helmiäislasihelmiä. Osat hopeoituja. Kaulakoru on melko lyhyt eli tulee korkealle kaulaan. Korvakorut ovat - sattuneesta syystä - melko massiiviset.

Ai mikä laulu? No tietysti "Hän", jossa kerrotaan kaunis tarina nuoresta naisesta, joka istutti puun taimen ja sitten poistui enkeleiden maahan ennen aikojaan. Prehniitti tässä kuvaa nuoruutta ja puun kasvua, sininen surua.

January theme in the beaders' forum is music, this set was made to that. It so happened, that I bought these prehnite nuggets from Inkku. It was tough job to find suitable mates to go with them: I tried light and dark colours, shiny and matte. Nothing seemed to fit to any song. Then suddenly I heard a piece of music in my head and the choice was clear: nightblue glass pearls! The earrings are quite massive.

What song? Oh yes, of course! The song is from the 60's, called "Honey" (the name in finnish is "She"). A beautiful, sad story of a young woman who planted a small tree and then suddenly went to the land of angels. In this jewellery set the prehnite means youth and growth, dark blue means sorrow.

Muutoksia - Minor changes

Blogi vaihtoi taas ulkonäköä. Nyt pääsin jo niin pitkälle, että sain oman kuvan tuonne otsikon taakse. Kyllä se tästä.
Yksi korukin valmistui tänään, mutta väri on sen verran hento, että taidan odotella luonnonvaloa kuvaamista varten.

Now the blog looks different again. I got so far in learning, that I got my own picture behind the header. Patience makes perfect, I hope.
I finished one necklace and pair of earrings today, but the colour of the stone is so delicate that I'd better wait for some natural light for photographing.

Dragon

Luxoniasta ostetut 6 mm:n picassojaspikset ovat odotelleet kaveria pitkään. Kun posti toi Inkulta ostamani "dragonskin"-riipukset, jotka myöhemmin luokittelin mustaksi tuliakaatiksi, tiesin löytäneeni picassoille paikan. Riipuskivi on uskomattoman kaunis, lähes läpinäkyvä. Sen värit sointuvat erinomaisesti picasson värikirjoon. Löysin riipuksesta myös aavistuksen punertavaa, joten kaivoin muutamia helmiäislasihelmiä, joissa on sekä kermaa että vaaleanpunertavaa. Lohikäärme oli syntynyt!

The base beads for this necklace, 6 mm picasso jaspers from Luxonia, had been waiting for nice buddies for some time. When I got the "dragonskin" pendant beads from Inkku, I instantly knew what to do with picassos. Later I found another name for the pendant, black fire agate. I could be wrong... Anyway, the pendant is stunningly beautiful, almost transparent, with colours matching exactly with picasso jasper. I also found a hint of red in the pendant, so I dug up a few glass pearls with funny colouring: both cream and light pink. The dragon was born! ,-)

Vanuatu

Eteläisen Suomen talvi näyttää tammikuussakin olevan harmautta ja vesisadetta tänä vuonna. Kaipaus kevääseen, aurinkoon ja valoon näkyy tässä korussa, joka sai nimensä Tyynenmeren saaren mukaan. Kimaltavaa korallihiekkaa, turkoosinsininen laguuni ja rannalta löydetty simpukankuori... aah. Perusideana oli löytää käyttöä Beadaholiquelta tilaajalahjana saadulle isolle "turkoosille". Sille löytyi kavereita Inkulta ostetuista 10 mm:n howliittiturkooseista ja Luxonian särölasihelmistä. Muutama musta lasihelmi vielä särmää antamaan ja korviksiin Luxonian tilaajalahjaksi saatuja turkoosisiruja. Hiukan harmittaa sävyjen erilaisuus, mutta mitä sitten: elämä on värikästä!

This winter seems to be here in southern Finland just dark grey skies and rain. In this set the longing for spring, sun and light can be seen. The name came from an island in the Pacific. Glittering white coral sand, turquoise blue lagoon and a seashell found on the beach... wow. The basic idea with this set was to find some idea for the turquoise pendant, which I got as a gift from Beadaholique. I matched it with 10 mm howlite turquoise beads, bought from Inkku, and crackeled glass beads from Luxonia. Then some black glass beads to add contrast and for the earrings small turquoise chips from Luxonia, and voilá. I'm not quite satisfied with the difference in colors, but what the heck: life is colourful!

Fire, walk with me

Onnistuin saamaan Päkän joulupatahuutiksesta upeita karneolitynnyreitä. Aikansa ne makailivat laatikossa inspiraatiota odotellen, mutta kun Jensku myi noita riipuksia, niin johan napsahti. Riipuksesta vaan värit mukaan ja valkoista kevennykseksi. Tämän nimeksi piti ensin tulla "Tiger Rag", mutta riipuskivi ei ollutkaan "tiger cherry" vaan "fire cherry". Rähmä. Jostain putkahti päähäni tuo nimi ja se sai kelvata. Myöhemmin muistin, mistä lause on kotoisin: Twin Peaksista (inhokkini). ,-)

I managed to buy these beautiful and BIG carnelian barrels from Päkä's Christmas Aid auction (money went to Salvation Army). For some time they were waiting for inspiration, but when Jensku sold these beautiful pendants, everything snapped to place. And some white to lighten up the dark carnelian. I was going to name this necklace "Tiger Rag" and take part to this month's theme (music), but I found out that the pendant was not "tiger cherry" but "fire cherry". Well, these things happen. Somewhere the new name dropped to my conciouseness and it just had to do. Much later I realised where the sentence was from: Twin Peaks. Oh my, and I didn't like the program. ,-)

Think Pink

Ostin Helmetistä, Jenskulta, tällaisia iloisen värisiä särölasihelmiä ja kuvittelin yhdistäväni niitä johonkin. Eiväthän ne minkään kanssa sopineet - paitsi mustan. Syntyi pikkutyttömäinen koru, joka kyllä mukavasti piristää harmaata tai mustaa puseroa. Vaijeria ja kullattuja osia.

I bought these exceptionally bright coloured crackeled glass beads from my forum-mate Jensku. I thought to mix them with something, but I soon realised that they just don't mix with anything - except black. So I made this child-like set, which nicely brightens up grey or black clothing. Beading wire and gold-plated parts.

Appelsiininkukkia

"Orange Blossom" setti, kuvassa kaulakoru. Kaipasin sydäntalven pimeyden keskelle jotain iloa, valoa ja väriä. Aragoniitista, valkoisesta cloisonnésta ja siemenhelmistä syntyi joulunpyhinä tämä värikäs idea.

"Orange Blossom" set, necklace in this picture. I was longing for some joy, light and colour to the darkness of midwinter. So during Christmas I created this colourful set of aragonite, white cloisonné and seed beads.
