Seemann - Sailor

Tämä korusetti on tehty vartavasten erästä merihenkistä juhlatilaisuutta varten. Nimi viittaa vanhaan saksalaiseen lauluun Seemann (Merimies), joka löytyy esim. täältä.

Rakennusaineina sinistä kultakiveä nugetteina, harmahtavia helmiäislasihelmiä ja kaksi 6 mm:n Crystal Golden Shadow -swaroa. Lanka on 0,6 mm kullattua kuparia.

This jewelry set was specially designed and made for a marine-related occasion. The name Seemann (Sailor) is connected to an old german song, which You can listen to for example here.

The set is made of big blue goldstone nuggets, pale grey(ish) glass pearls and topped with a couple of Swarovski Crystal Golden Shadow -bicones. Wire is 0,6 mm gold plated copper.

Auringonkukat - Sunflowers

Uusi ikkunatyö valmis, lopultakin! Leveyttä työllä on lähes A3-paperin verran, sopivasti terassin oven alaosaan. Tarkoitus on, etteivät koirat (tai ihmisetkään) törmää oveen, kun se on suljettuna. Yritin saada työn näyttämään mahdollisimman paljon lasityöltä, siksi väripinta on epätasainen.

Finally my latest window color "artwork" is finished! These sunflowers found their place in the lower part of the patio door, so that my dogs (or human visitors) won't hit the door when it is closed. The width of this picture is about 400 mm (15,7 inches). I tried to make this look like glasswork as much as possible, that's why the coloured surface is uneven.

Maaliskuun SHY-paketti - SBF March

Olin jo huolestumassa, kun maaliskuu kului loppuun eikä Salaisesta Helmiystävästäni (SHY) kuulunut mitään. Mutta kuten tavallista, hyvää kannattaa odottaa: tänään, aprillipäivänä, postilaatikosta löytyi ISO kirjekuori ja sieltä kaikenlaisia ihanuuksia. Kiitos, rakas Huippusalainen Helmiystäväni!

I was getting somewhat worried, when March ended and still I hadn't heard of my Secret Beader Friend (SBF). But, as usual, the nervewrecking wait paid itself: today, on the April Fool's Day, I found a HUGE envelope filling my mailbox. An envelope full of wonderful surprises! Lehden lisäksi kuoressa oli pussillinen viininpunaisia swaroja sekä mustia kivihelmiä (mustaa kiveä tai onyxia, luulisin).

Moreover, I also found pouchful of beads in the envelope. There were nicely bling wine red Swarovski beads and shiny black beads (I don't know if they are Black Stone or Onyx).

Ja sokerina pohjalla viisi aivan hurmaavaa mustaa sydänhelmeä, joissa on kaiverrettuna kaunis kukkakuviointi. Nunnuli tunnisti materiaalin cinnabariksi.

Perhaps the best of all were these charming black, heart-shaped beads with a delicate and beautiful flower pattern. My beader friend Nunnuli recognised the material to be cinnabar.

Pure Amethyst

Ametistikoru, jossa kolme isoa yläporattua nugettia sekä Luxonian pikkuisia ovaaleja. Ametisti on lempikiviäni, jonka kanssa mielellään yhdistän kultaa - tosin tässä tapauksessa vain kullattua 0,6 mm:n kuparilankaa. Korvakorut pitää vielä tehdä.

Amethyst necklace with three big nuggets (can't remember where I bought them) and small ovals from Luxonia. Amethyst is one of my favorite stones, and I like to combine it with gold - in this case only gold plated 0,6 mm copper wire.
I need to make earrings for this, too.

Pachamama - Äiti maa

Helmetin Jenskulta ostettu iso larvikiittisydän sai kavereikseen Luxonian kirjoakaattia. Nunnulilta löysin sievät larvikiittikolmiot korvakoruihin. Ihanan maanläheiset värit antoivat korusetille nimen "Pachamama" eli jumalatar Äiti maa. Tässä tapauksessa näin, vaikka aymara-intiaanien kielessä Pachamama voi tarkoittaa myös Universumin äitiä.

For some time ago I bought the big Norwegian Pearl Stone (larvikite) heart from my fellow beader Jensku. Later Nunnuli found a couple of pretty larvikite triangles for the earrings. Now they found the perfect companion from Luxonia: fancy agate. Those wonderfully earthlike colours gave the jewelry set the name "Pachamama", meaning (the goddess) "Mother Earth". Pachamama is a word in aymara indian language and also can be translated as Mother Of Universe.

Sahara

Ostin kokeeksi nauhan vaaleita Desert Sun -helmiä, jotka ovat jotenkin suloisia karheine pintoineen. Kun kerran kyseessä ovat "autiomaahelmet", tuli korusetin nimeksi väreihin sopivasti "Sahara". Auringon hehkua kuvaamaan lisäsin koruun kullanvärisiä helmiäislasihelmiä ja vaalean kellertävän Muranon lasihelmen. Lisäksi, autiomaan vähäistä kasvillisuutta ajatellen, laitoin värin antajaksi vaalean oliivinvihreitä helmiäislasihelmiä.

Just for testing I bought one strand of light beige Desert Sun beads, which are somewhat cute with their rough, sandlike surface. As they are "desert beads", I named this set "Sahara". To imitate the burning desert sun, I added some golden glass pearls and one light yellowish Murano glass foil bead. For the scarce vegetation I put a few light olive colour glass pearls.

Bikini

Tyynenmeren saarien sarjassa seuraava kesäinen setti, nimeltään Bikini. Ajattelin ensin jotain korallipitoista nimeä, mutta punainen johdatti ajatukset aikanaan Bikini-atollilla tehtyihin tuhoisiin ydinkokeisiin. Kaunis, mutta vaarallinen... olkoon tämä korusetti myös kannanotto ydinasekokeita vastaan.

Settiin käytin 8 ja 10 mm:n koralli-imitaatiohelmiä Luxoniasta. Kaksirivisessä rannekorussa on lisäksi muutama cloisonné-tynnyri ja kaksi isoa MOP-helmeä. Korut - korviksia lukuunottamatta - on tehty vaijeriin ja osat kullattua rihkamaa.

In the Pacific Island series my next set with summer touch is called Bikini. First I thought to give this set some coral-connected name, but the bright red colour brought the disastrous nuclear tests on the Bikini-atoll to my mind. Beautiful, but dangerous... so this jewelry set reveals my opinion against nuclear arms testing.

For this set I used 8 and 10 mm imitation coral beads from Luxonia. In the two-strand bracelet there are some cloisonné-barrels and two large MOP beads. The set is made on wire - except the earrings, of course. Metal parts are gold-plated.
